Aoross the yellow- plaint I canter, , ■ "- .. . . Swinging along at ari easy pace ;••>■' ' ' < The glow of sunset is in the heavenß.' ;- : . < And the breeze blows cool against my face. Here a rabbit runs to its warren, , . \ Scared by the tramp of my horses feet ; From the stony hillside, thro' the distance,' Gomes the plaintive sound of a young lamb bleat. And now to ford the deep clear river* Stealing alone in its shingly bed, , How changed it looked in the storms of winter, - . By many a mountain torrent fed 1 The moon is rising, and slowly fades The last red tinge of departing day ; . , \ i I hear the woodnena calling shrilling As I ride past on my lonely way.' < * ( "■ ' '- -Vflsr.
