BAZAAR AT OUTRAM

A bazaar and a gift auction were held at Outram ■ on Monday and Tuesday last in aid of the repairs to West Taieri church, and were patronised by large , gatherings, who entered eagerly into the busfness of the occasion. An hour before the opening on Mon- ' day evening about 300 children gathered around a " jubilee " tree, from which eiwh of (-.hem received an article; and while this was proceeding Misses Lilly Snow and Jessie Kirkland. two of their schoolmates, played a duet. The bazaar stalls were placed on either side of the hall, on which were tastefully arranged an abundant array of plain and fancy goods of every description— the work of the willii g hands of almost all the ladies in the disf.rlo^. Great credit is due to the ladies and others who supplied the goods for the hearty way in which they came forward with their help. The stalls on the one side of the hall were presided over by Mrs Kirkland and Misses Chisholm, M'Diarmid (of Koseneath), and Kirkland (2), and on the other by Mesdames J. Dow (of Dowfield) and Shand and Misses Grant (of Granton). The refreshment s' all, which did an excellent business, was presided over be Misses Kirkland (2), Fulton (2), and Beeves, assisted by Mesdames EspUn and Kennedy. The proceedings were enlivened by the good services of the West Taieri Brass Sand, kindly given for the occasion, and by vocal and instrumental selections by Mr James Miller, Mrs Beeves, Misses Beeves, Kirkland, Chisholm, Fulton, and Buchanan. The gift auction, which took place on Tuesday, disposed of a considerable assortment of goods — grain, potatoes, turnips, trees, flotir, seeds, furniture, musical instruments, hams, beef, sheep, fowls, and a variety of other things. Mr D. Reid, who kindly gave his services for the occasion, was the auctioneer. It is believed that a sum of over £130 (including the proceeds of a soiree held in connection with the effort) has been realised. The office-bearers of the church cannot but be satisfied with the goodwill shown by all and the manliest desire to make the affair a success.
