LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board, which was held on Wednesday, was attended by Messrs J. P. Maifcland (chief commissioner), J. Logan, J. Duncan, and H. Clark.

GORDON.

The Town Board of Gordon applied to have section 1, block 11, East Gore, vested in them as a Town Board reserve. — The application was referred to the Government for consideration.

A QUESTION OP ECONOMY.

The Under-secretary for Crown Lands wrote, under instructions from the Hon. the Minister of Lands, suggesting that with a view to economy in fees, travelling expenses, &c. the board should meet at longer intervals than a week. — It was resolved that the chief commissioner should reply to the communication, and forward a resolution to the effect that the amount of business that came before the board necessitated their meeting once a week as at present.

LEE STREAM.

The surrender of Run 259, Lee Stream, having been accepted by Government, the Governorin- Council was recommended by the board to relet ,the run for a term to expire on March 1, 1892, at an upset rental of £90.

WAKATIPU.

The licensee of Run 420, Wakatipu, being in arrears with his rent, the board was desired to consider the. advisability of forfeiting his license. — It was resolve d that a notice be inserted in the Gazette that the run was liable to forfeiture under section 188 of the act.

Mr Dorrid wrote, recommending that Mr Nankivel should obtain a grazing site over section 2, block X, Waikouaiti district, on condition that he destroyed the rabbits thereon. — Referred to the chief commissioner.

APPLICATIONS.

The following applications to complete purchase were approved: — Hugh Blaickie, section 14, block VI, Waitahuna East ; Wm. Anderson, ■ection 10, block V, Otama. «

"WENDON.

Mr W. M. Anderson applied to surrender the license of his deferred-payment holding, section 3, block VIII, Wendon.— The license was forfeited, the ranger being instructed to make a valuation of improvements. j < Mr Colin Robertson, section 76, block I, ■Wendon, and Mr D. J. Smith, section 77, block VIII, Wendon, applied to surrender their perpetual qlease sections.— The surrender was accepted. KAWAEAXJ. Mr J. F. ou behalf of L. D. Manson, asked if he might be allowed to occupy section 5, block 111, Kawarau district, under the .deferred-payment system. — It was decided that the board had no power to comply with the request, as the section was situated in a special village settlement. BLUESKIN BAY. Mr W. D. Stacton's application for leave to use for grazing purposes Rabbit Island, Blueskin Bay, was declined. EAST KOBE. Mr David Dougall applied that section 9, block XXIII, East Gore, be opened as suburban land on deferred payment. — Referred to Ranger Hughan to report. " * TEVIOT. Mr W. L. Simpson, on behalf of James Craig, applied for a license under " The Coalmines Acb 1886," to mine for lignite on a portion of block V, TFeviot, and upon section 12, block IX.— A petition was received from JMr M'Kenzie and others objecting to the application, as there was a coalmine opened in the district already; also & report from Ranger Shaw, agreeing to the license being granted.— lt was resolved that a license be issued for three years at a rental of £1 per acre per annum. LUGOATE. The District Land Officer, Clyde, returned 8 the application of Messrs Anderson and M'lntosh, with a recommendation that the same be granted, so far as the larger area was concerned. — Approved, subject to survey regulations and payment of survey fees.
