THE NATIONALIST LEADER PUT TO
FLIGHT.

Ottawa, May 18.
Very serious disturbances took place afc Toronto to-night, when William O'Brien, the Irish Nationalist leader, while attempting to address an open-air meeting, was stoned by the mob and compelled to fly for his life. He succeeded in escaping, though the crowd smashed the windows of the shop in which it was believed he had taken refuge. It is feared rioting will be renewed to-morrow. May 21.
O'Brien, the Irish Nationalist leader, arrived at this city to-day from Toronto. On attempting to address a meeting to-night he was stoned by the mob, and again compelled to run for. his life. He left to-night for Niagara, and from thence he will proceed to New York.
