• . An interesting > find was • made in i 'the < Southern Recreation Ground one day last! week by Mr. William Hendley, caretaker of! the Oval. An open drain with a couple of ■inches of water in it runs through the re-i serve, having no connection with any stream or other drain, but emptying directly into •the bay: From this drain Mr Hendley took out four fish whose identification puzzled a number of gentlemen with a reputation for 1 , possessing considerable piscatorial know- 1 ledge. Professor Parker was ultimately "appealed ■ to, and identified the .fish as belonging to the genus galaxias, the New Zealand gudgeon, as they are a closely allied species. They were subsequently exhibited at the meeting of the Otago Institute.
