PENINSULA. BO AD BOARD.

The „ ordinary, monthly meeting , of the Peninsula Road Board was held in the Highcliff schoolhouse on Saturday afternoon, April 2, the following members being present : — Messrs Stuart (chairman), R. Lee, A. Smaill, A. Mathiesou, J. Mathiesou, J. Weiper, R. F. Inglis, aud J. White.— 'The Chaihman reported that he had settled Mr G. Hutcheson's claim for compensation for road-line for £32 10s.— Mr Inglis moved, and Mr Lee seconded— •" That the action of the chairman in the above matter be" confirmed," which was carried. — It was resolved that Mr D. Kirk wood be requested to sign, a copy of the conditions granted to him to quarry stone, and forward' it to the hoard.~The Inspector reported that there are some very bad bo alders projecting through the metal on the Camp road. Resolved that the boulders be taken oufe and 60 yards o£ metal spread upou the road. — It was,, resolved that the necessary steps be taken to close a portion of the Sandymouut road, opposite M'Kay's deviation. — A letter was received from J.Beattie re the opeu- { j ing of the road through luglis' land.— Mr Smaill ! moved, and Mr A. Mathiesqn seconded—" That two gates be put on, and that , the board fence the deviation." Carried.— A letter, from Macgregor aud North, on behalf of Mr Henry North, re the overflow of water on 'to his property, was received. — A petition from ratepayers j in the Bandymouut district requested some improvements to be made on the ridge. It was ordered that a surfaceman be put on to repair the road. — Mr Robert Lee was appointed a delegate to the Charitable Aid Conference.— D,. Harland complained of the overflow of!- water from the road on to his property.. The members for the district were empowered to take what steps they- - may think- • necessary.?-* Mr Smaili reported that Miller, road required some repair before the winter sets in f ; Mr White moved,^and Mr SarAitc seconded," That a sum not exceeding £5 be spent in ■ improving Miller road." Carried. — It was resolved on the motion of Mr Smaill that 60 yards of metal be broken and spread on the Tomahawk road, from the creek to the bottom of Henderson's bill. — Tenders were then * opened for the following works :— formation M'Kay's deviation—accepted, M'Kay Brps. ; 100 yards metal, Sandyruount road— accepted, Dick Bros.— Mr WEirER reported that the-SealPoint road required some' repairs, and it was decided to spread 60 yards of metal on that road.— A letter was received from Mr G. M'Kenzie,Bui>veyor, with reference to the hurvty of the Manse road from Michie to the -Camp road. Mr M'Kenzie was instructed to proceed with and finish the work. — The Chairman reported that the police had had some difficulty in gettiug a conviction against the owners of cattle strayiug on the road commonly called the Chinaman's road, ft was decided to name it -. Cutten road.— The Chairman also reported that Mr Reekie .was making very slow progress .with his contract' on the Highcliff j road: -It was resolved to direct Mr Reekie to finish the first section of his contract and allow' it to stand over for the winter.— Mr- J> Mathieson moved, and; Mr Wbipee seconded— •' That Mr Stnaill's ofi!er of £5 be' accepted as hisshare of the, -cost of survey,' Mr Smaill agreeing to pay half the cost of < transfer.'-' — The. board then went into committee, and the Csairman read a report of the Finance Committee (consisting of Messrs J. Uathiesoni J.j White, and the. chairman), which had been app.qipted at the previous meeting. The report, whi/eh recommended the resignation of the' clerk, was adopted.—The C^AlfiMAij, then read a letter from the clerk resigning^ bis position,, and-af ter discussion, it was moved by Mr Sdiaill, seconded by Mr -Mateiksojt — "That the rer . sjgnation be not acoepted.'V-Mr Whit£ moved as an amendment.apd Mr L>E seconded —^TJjat. the resignation be acpepted."— On bejng put to the vote ifte motion was carried. — The C^aibij^an then iptimated that he would no longer sit at the board, as he considered it a deliberate insult to appoint a committee, adopt their Ye-" port, and then refuse to parry out their rt commendations. He then left the chair. —Mr Wp<T]B subsequently handed in his resignation and left the room, and the chairman immediately afterwards wrotp oujfc and handed in his resignation. , A special meeting of the board was held in the Highelifl 1 schoolhpuse .on Saturday last, there being present— Messrs A. Mashieson J. Mathieson, A. Sniaill, j. Weiper, H. P. Inglis, and J. R. Rutherford.— Mr. Rutherford having been vo'pd to the chair, the board proceeded to consider the reaignations of Messrs Stuart, Lee, and White. Mr A. Mathiesow moyed, and ]j|r J. Weiper seconded, that they, be, accepted, whiph was carried. — The clerk was instructed 'to get the chairman to sign the electoral rolls. — Mr i Wjlliam Weir was appointed returning officer.— ' 111 1 was decided that an extra surfaceman be employed to assist the board's surfacemen in putting on the metal.— Tenders were ordered tp be
