The amount of revenue received at the Dunedin Cubtom House during the past week on goods cleared for consumption was £6978 14s Id. The beer duty amounted to £306 9s 4d, and the gold duty to 18s. Cornsacks continue to receeive attention, and the market is firm at 6s 6d per dozen for ordinary lines. A very largely attended meeting of the creditors of Esther and Low was held yesterday afternoon, Mr GL L. Denniston in the chair. A balance sheet was presented showing the firm's total liabilities to be £19,628 18s Id, and their assets £22,463 Is Id ; the latter consisting of : Property account, £4249 18.55 d; stock-in-trade, £8223 17s 9d ; bills receivable, £755 6s 7d ; outstanding accounts, £9140 14s 6d ; and cash in hand, £93 36 lOd. Mr Low explained that his annual balance at 31st March 1886 showed a surplus of £10,000, and that his net losses during the past year had amounted to over £7000, After discussion, it was resolved by the meeting to accept a composition of 17s 6d in the pound— lss payable in equal monthly instalments over a period of 12 months, and 2s 6d in 15 months. Mr Low expressed the opinion that he would be able to carry out this arrangement. Lansdowne, an estate eight miles from Ohristchurch, the property of Sir Edward Willam Stafford, was offered at auction to-day by C. Newton and Hon. No bid was received for the property in one lot, consisting of 2576 acres of splendid land, with residence, grounds, and ornamental plantati .ns. It was then offered in subdivisions, of which two sections situated at opposite extremities of the estate, comprising 159 acres and *8 acres, were sold at £31 and £31 10s respectively. There is keen inquiryfortheunsoldsections. It is estimated that eight year's ago the property would have fetched nearly double this.
