WAKATIPU MINING NOTES.

i (Fbom Oue Own Cobbesfondent.) Abhow, April 12. The Premier Company at Btacetown ie meeting with very encouraging prospects. The country, which heretofore was hard and the reef but poor, is turning to a more kindly description, and the gold hi the stone is increasing as progress is made. Some of the stone raised is quite equal to the best seen in the mine, the gold showing in solid streaks and coarse specks, and there is now every likelihood of the company weathering all threatened difficulties and coming out of them successfully. There is also every probability of crushing beginning before long. More men are put on, which is a good sign, there being now 12 men employed raising stone* The Tlppetury mine at Macetown continues to get out stone of a promising nature, but there will be probably no washing up before winter. At Skippers Mr Fred (Evans applies for a special claim of 200 acres, which includes several leases already granted, with a view, it is reported, of forming a syndicate in London for the working of the claim, which adjoins the Phoenix Extended on the west and includes a large portion of Mount Aurum. The British-American, the property of the late Mr Andrew Southberg, is , announced for sale. No other news is to hand from this quarter. The Gallant Tip, Upper Shotbver. has resumed crushing, and the proppects in the mine look well. The Maori Point Reef Company is now in a forward state of preparation, and crushing will begin shortly. ' Messrs Davis .Brothers are reported to have struck a rich lead of gb'l3 on a false bottom in their claim at Stony creek.. The Arrow River Tunnel Company have decided to procure an intermediate jet for their hydraulic jet elevator, which is expected to increase the efficiency of the elevator greatly. At Macetown alluvial mining looks very brisk, most of the parties being on payable gold, while some are doing really very well indeed.
