LOVE'S WHISPERINGS.
A Sonnet. Each breeze of morning wafts a thought of one who's dear to me, And even too is richly fraught with musings still of thee. When wandering through fche golden woods in autumn's mantle dressed, I pause and listen— 'tis thy name 4 they whisper in unrest. I take my way o'er rock and crag -beneath are wa'ers wide, And looking in their azure depths, fchou still art by my side. For mirrored are th«lr face and form in glass of Nature's mould ; And all thy charms enhanced by her, and all thy virtues told. I scale a mountain's sunny slope, and on its summit stand And gaze on beauties— in my clasp I feel thy loving hand. Though thou art far removed from me ; to dwell 'neath ether skies, Thou still retain'st love's magic power, which time and space defies. O cruel fate to part us thus— no longer will I • roam, Bnt launch me on the boundless main, and claim thee for mine own. -A. L. Dunedin, April i.
