MBLBOUBNK.'March 23. The. Age, discussing Sir J. "Vogel's scheme of a Pacific cable service, says it has many patent obstacles; that it doubts whether the public will obtain much advantage by cables being in the bands of Government, officials. Lord Deerhurst has resigned his appointment as aide-de-camp to Sir Henry Loch. The manager of the National Mqrtgage and Agency Company, of New Zealand reports as follows of the local markets:— Wheat, 3s lOd to 3s lid, quieter and weaker ; barley, ,4s to ss, in active demand for all descriptions ; oats (feed sorts), 2s 8d to 2s lid, weak ; oats (milling sorts), 2s lid to 3s, void of competition ; and New Zealand oats under bond, 2s 2d. *
