TAIERI FERRY.
Febiiuary 7. — The Taieri bridge has now been opeuwl for traffic about five wet- ks. No ceremony attended the throwing open of the new bridge to the public. The contractor' received , liintructions to turn the traffic, and in -that i q net manner the old bridge ceased to be a j cmiitcting link between luvercargill and Dim- i edin. The old structure still stands. It is desirable that the loc'il bodies should have it ratuoved, as it is both an eyesore ■ aud an obstacle to the. river traffic. • Taikri Ferry School —The committee of this school is spending money' on improving th« appearance of the hchool |>y erecting, a picket ! leacn in front of the school building and teacher's resilience.-, It is also fencing in a playground for the children. - ■ Waihola' Schooi, Committee.— This committen mfet on the 29th ult.
