WANGALOA.
January B.— The weather is all that can be desired, both for farmers and pleasure-seekers. The annual picnic was held on Monday last m one of Mr David Robertson's paddocks. The gathering was one of the largest that I have ever seen in the district. At about half-past 10 people began to arrive from all quarters, and by 1 o'clook there were between 200 and 300 persons present on the ground. Messrs H. Clements and W. York brought ovet a number of Kaitangaites in their bullock waggons,' taking them back again in the evening. 'The business people of Kaitangata also subscribed liberally fa the fund for providing* prizes for the children. After doing justice to the good things, a number of those present made their way to the beach, ' ' while others indulged in various games and ' sports nnder the superintendence of J. Haggart, J. Burns, and D. Haggart. A number of prizes were offered for running, &c., and * all were keenly contested for. A most enjoyable day was brought to a close by a ball in the evening, Mr Lawrence placing bis barn at the disposal of the residents for this purpose. Messrs Clemeui s and D. Haggart supplied thej mußie, and Mr W. Bisect acted as M.C. Dancing was kept up till an early hour in the morning, when the usael ' votes of thaake vere passed aad the gatberißg brake tsp. • ; •
