A gentleman resident in the vicinity of Ints cargill (says the Southland! 'Wets got a few dwts. each, and had to carry theft on our backs for about two miles— a very w occupation on a scorching hot day. Ther| not a man on the field doing anything;- the i^ wretches are not making enough to keep tt£ in tucker. There are only a few hundreds the field now, and they are all QueenslandereiJ cannot raise enough to take them away. If, lieve there have been from 12 to 1400 r| on the field, but the rush, is over d| and there have been no arrivals lately. TK will probably be some rich reefs found, here| understand some have already been discover) but there has not been time to try them )| All the gold that has been found appears! ' have come from reefs ; there is no lea^ of rl such as you would find on any other field. m are getting most luck in the little ravines, bt| is very patchy. The water was just about i% when we left the field. Men and* horses hifjj drink out of the same hole, and the.Wateri very bad. There will be no rain worth ment© ing till about the New Year. There has ti 16,000,000 acres of pastoral land tbrown| since the diggings failed." , ■ $
