• London, January 6. The wool market is quieter but steadier. The total arrivals to date for the next series of sales amount to 120,000 bales.

London, January 8. Australian greasy merino fleece wool is being sold privately at an advance of to |d on closing rates of last sales.

(Special to Peess Association.) London, January 7. Fifteen hundred bales of wool have been sold privately at an advance of £d to $d per lb on the closing rates of last sales.

MELBOURNE SALES,

(Reutee's Telegrams.) Melbourne, January 0, The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency company held their usual weekly sale this afternoon to a full attendance of buyers. The bidding was spirited throughout, 6330 balea were offered of which 2735 bales wer« sold at satisfactory prices. Prices generally were much firmer than before the holidays, though without an established advancp. Grensy wool hold up to 10§d ; scoured to Is lid ; aud washed fleeces to 14|d. Private advices from London state that there is an increasing inquiry for wool, and the market is stronger.

The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealatid ( Limited ) have received the following cable re the London Wool Market :— . " There has been a brisk demand privately between the sales, and merino wool 6hows an average rise of Id per lb."

Messrs Dalgety and Company (Limited) have received the following cablegram from their head office, dated London, January 7:—" The tendency of the wool market is decidedly upwards. Prices in geueral t,how a rise of £d to {d per lb,"

Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) have received tub following cablegram from their head office dated London, 7th inst.: — ''There is more animation in the wool market, and prices are rather firmer. Considerable purchases are made for Continental account."
