FATAL ACCIDENTS.

While the 6.15 train was coming from Port Chalmers on Monday night a young man named Thomas Martin, who was sitting on the platform of one of the carriages, fell Off the train and received some very severe injuries, which resulted in his death. It appears that when the train reached a point a few hundred yards beyond Sawyers' Bay a fellow passenger noticed i hat Martin turned very white, and fearing for his safety, endeavoured to catch hold of him. He was, however, too late, and Martin fell off the train. The guard was communicated with as soon as possible; and when the train reached Burkes station, he telegraphed to the stationmaster at Sawyers' Bay with reference to the accident to Martin, who was picked up near tko railway line at the place where he fell from the train. Both his legs were round to be broken, and his body was also greatly crushed. On being taken to the hospital he was attended to by Dr Davies, but did not live very long after bis admission. He was a bookbinder by trade, and had been employed temporarily in the Caxton printing office. He was an unmarried man and about 21 years of age. An inquest will be held on Thursday, at 10 o'clock.
