WALTON SCHOOL.

This school broke up for the holidays on on the 22nd in presence of a large number of parents and visitors. The schoolroom w"as tastefully decorated, and after a programme of songs and recitations had been carried out Mr Martin, J.P., and the Rev. Mr Watt addressed the children. EVANSDALE SCHOOL.

The distribution of prizes at the Evansdale school took place on the 22nd, a goodly number of visitors being present. Mr Bayley, who along with Mr Fraser, the teacher, got up the concert for the prize fund, distributed the books, adding a few words of encouragement to each recipient. The Rev. Mr Finlayson praised the children highly for the excellence of their conduct, and advised them all to try to excel for the future. Mr Jones spoke a few words applicable to the occasion. Mr Rochford, in an excellent speech, referred particularly to the advisability of introducing into school education mechanics as a feature, as he considered great advantages would accrue to the children when they became men and women if the last year of attendance at school was taken up in part with instruction of that, character. Mr Jones was the donor of the prizes for the most popular girl (chosen by the votes of the boys) and boy (on the votes of the girls). Miss Rochford kindly judged the 6ewing, and the senior boy returned thanks to the speakers. Miss Jones, the pupil teacher, assisted in giving out the prizes as follows :—
