NOTES BY JACK.

The Christchurch and Canterbury clubs have already played their return match, the Canterbury men again being the victors by a very small majority, the scores standing— Canterbury, 74 ; Christchurch, 71. The game was played on the Christchurch green on Saturday, the 18th, commencing at 3 p.m. The aggregate scores at half-past 3, gave Christchurch 21, Canterbury 10; at 4, Ohristcburoh 31, Canterbury 26; at half-past 4, Christchurch 47, Canterbury 33 ; at 5, Christchurch 64, Canterbury 50. At riuk No. 1 the game, which had all along been in favour of the younger club, finished at five minutes past 5, with Canterbury 21, Christchurch 15. Five minutes later at rink No. 4 Christchurch, who had been leading steadily from the beginning, scored a victory with 21 to Canterbury's 12. About a quarter of an hour later, at No. 3 rink, Canterbury, after having played a losing game, for over two hours, and having rallied manfully towards the finish, scored a victory with 21 to 14. At 20 minutes to 6 the game at No. 2 rink proved a victory for Christchurch. This game had been quite even for the first three-quarters of an hour, and within the next half - hour had appeared to be almost a certainty for Christohurch, the score at 5 o'clock being — Christchurch, 16 ; Canterbury, 10. From this it went in a few minutes to "17 all," then to "19 all " ; then it stood at — Christchurch, 19; Canterbury, 20; and finally — Christchurch, 21 ; Canterbury, 20. The match thus ended by three points in favour of Canterbury, who scored 74 to Christchurch 71. The players were : — CHBISTCHURCH. CANTERBURY. Kink No. 1. J Gould H Toomer, sen. J. T. Peacock proposed- the health of the Canterbury men, complimenting them on their play, and expressing the belief that a combined team from both the clubs would be a match for any in the colony. Mr Hale, president of the younger club, duly acknowledged the toast. After the remarks made by the chairman of the Qhristchurch Club, it is to be hoped that the Canterbury clubs will contrive and meet a similar combination of the Otago clubs, and thus inaugurate an interprovincial match. As the Canterbury clubs are visiting Dunedin this year the Otago men should issue the challenge, and I trust that steps will be taken forthwith to bring about so desirable a match. A Bowling Club has been started at Wanganui. The green was opened last night by a number of Taranaki players. The club has decided to join the New Zealand Bowling Association. The following clubs have entered^for the tournament : — No. of Club. Kink. Skips. Christchurch „. 2 — Struthers, G. Thomson Balclutha ... 3 J. Gow, P. Keddie, and B. Hogg Dunedin ... 6 A. It will thus be seen that nine clubs have entered, with a total of 28 competing rinks. The committee of the Bowling Association will meet next week, after which I shall be able to give further particulars as to the tournament and the various other matches to come off.
