CRICKET.
NOTES BY SLIP. THE VISIT OF THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM. It is understood that the^ Australian Eleven will arrive at the Bluff on the 18th or 19th inst. In that case they will play Otago on 22nd, 23rd, and 24tb, but if their arrival should be delayed only a two days' matoh will be played at Dunedin. The Australians are to meet the Canterbury team on Friday, 26th inst., aud the match will be continued on Saturday and Monday. The visitors play Wellington on Ist, 2nd, and 3rd December, and Auckland on 7tb, Bth, and 9th. A meeting of the committee of the Cricket Association was held at Wain's Hotel on Saturday night, Mr M. Cohen in the chair. It was agreed to accept the terms offered by Mr A. M. Ollivier for a three-days' match here, aud ifc was decided to put a twenty-two in the field against the Australians. The secretary was directed to communicate with the country clubs, inviting them to nominate players from their clubs willing to take part in the match. THE ENGLISH CRICKETERS. Melbourne, November 7. Shaw and Lillywhite's team of English cricketers commenced a match to-day against an Eleven of Victoria, which consists of the following players :— Boylo, Edwards, H.oran, Houston, Lewis, Midwinter, M'Shane, Phillips, Trii.nick, Trott-, and Wprrall. The attendance was good. An excellent wicket had been prepared, and the ground was in first-rate order. Melbourne, November 8. The cricket match Shaw and Lillywhite'a Team v. Eleven of Victoria was resumed today The home team, who lost four wickets for 204 runs, continued their innings; the last wicket falling tor 329 runs. M'JShane's score was 05 when he was caught. .Horan made 117 (not out). The English team then went to tho wickets, and at the conclusion of the day's play had lost one wicket for 73 runs ; Barlow being 27 (not out). Melbourne, November 9. * The cricket match bhaw and LUly white's Team v. Eleven of Victoria was continued to-day. The Englishmen, who- yesterday lost one wicket for 73 runs, resumed their innings, ' and when stumps were drawn had lost seven wickets for 333 runs. Barlow contributed 88 (not out), Gunn (bowled) 47, Flowers (not out) 51.
