OWAKE.

November s.— The building trade will have a busy time of it during the next month or two. The teacher's residence— a small and inconvenient structure — is about to have an addition made to it, for which tenders are already called. At Pukereki a new school is to be erected, and the present building enlarged and transformed into a dwelling house. The Baptists have purchased a site of three acres, and, furnished with money from Dunedjn and Cavershatn, they have set abont building a chapel. It will be 30ft by 18ft, with 12ft walls. Mr Priver, of C.ivershara, is the contractor. On the 2nd November the foundation block was laid by Miss Wilson, of Port Molyneux. Messrs Falconer, Kerr, and Osborne were present, and a Mr Alston delivered an address. Catxin's Railway.— l have lately heard, on what I consider good authority, that the Government intend delaying the construction of the Catlin'fl railway until winter. Now, although for various reasons they may think this course advisable, its absurdity is apparent to anyone who knows this district. Railway construction might be proceeded with in a dry district such as Oamaru during the winter months, but here almost all operations are arrested because of the excessive amount of rain and consequent mud. I therefore trust that the resolutions recently passed at the publip meeting held at Lower Owake may not be without their influence upon the Government, and that the} will forthwith call for tenders for the construction of a second section of the Catlin's railway.
