(P.kuter's Telegrams.) London, November i. Sir Graham Berry, who has been informed of the withdrawal of the French troops from the New Hebrides as improbable, has pressed Mr Stanhope to again urge the French Government to withdraw from the New Hebrides*. November 5. Sir Graham Beiry had an interview to-day with Mr Stanhope on the subject of the French occupation of the New Hebrides. Mr Stanhope stated that the British Government had made a proposal to the French providing for the withdrawal of the French troops from these islands, but that was not expected. France would not accept the proposal without some modification. The French Government also made a proposal on t.he subject, but this was not acceptable to her Majeoty's Government. (Special to Press Association.) London, November 5. France is objecting to England's proposals relative to a settlement of the New Hebrides question, and consequently the Hon. Mr Stanhope despairs of a satisfactory settlement of the affair
