HOUSE-BREEDING FOR ARMY SUPPLY.
Editor Witness,— l do hope our farmers will pay more attention to breeding good weightcarriers and strong harness and , carriage horses suitable for army service. It is' lamentable to see the great carlessness exhibited by farmers in this respect. It wants sound judgment not only in selecting mares of good size, bone, and quality, but also in refraining from employing light, weedy entires, of which so many are to be, seen about. It is far better to pay a' good price for a big upstanding entire, and to breed upstanding, weight-carrying hacks and carriage horses, than to go in for the light weeds with which the colony is mandated.., I had. mission 'lately to buy 50 horses up to ib* stone for- army work; and although I scoured- Otago and Canterbury, I could not find 10.— I am, &0., ' ' ' .
