WAIMUMU AND CHARLTON.

November 1. — It has been our good fortune during the past few weeks to experience a spell of very propitious spring weather, which has had a salutary effect upon the young cereal crops, and has given a marked stimulus to the growth of all vegetation. The present spring is in marked contrast to the previous one, mild weather prevailing this year, while last year srong winds wtiM the most markedjfeature.

Agricultural. — Sowing as a rule was finished in the middle of last month, and a fair braird is now showing on all hands. Growth is on the whole well advanced, and if all goes well there is a hope for a moderately early harvest. Potato planting is at present engaging the attention of the farmers, and grass seed sowing is also being expeditiously carried on.

Pastoral. — The lambing season is now almost closed, and results are apparently up to expectations. The season has been most favourable for securing a high percentage, especially among the flocks that have lambed during the past month.

PISCATORIAL. — There is not a superabundance of fish in this neighbourhood. The Waimumu stream, which intersects the district, has a stock of fish in its lower waters, towards the Mataura, but they have not reached us yet. However, efforts are being made by those interested to get young fry introduced into our portion of tho stream. lam informed that a brace of worthy residents are going in " lemons " for angling ; of their success I shall speak hereafter.
