NOTES. (a) The most effectual way of defending the KKtP. (b) Well played. (c) Dr Stenhouse left for England before this move was played, and the editor took up the game from this point. It would have been better to have played this rook to Q sq, thereby •aving time. (d) We consider that Black has slightly the best of the position at this point. (c) This looks a promising move, but in reality it loses the game. Had White taken the P with B, Black would have won by R takes R P &c. (/) A most effective reply. Iff) Moving this rook lost valuable time, which Mr Stevens skilfully availed himself of with unerring precision. (A) The coup de grace to an interesting game. There is no nope for Black after this capital move.
