MENZIES' FERRY.
September 6.—A batchelors' ball was held in Mr Jas. Milue's barn, Menzies' Ferry, on Friday, 3rd September. The management committee spared neither time nor trouble in trying to make the affair a success, and, judging from the result, I think they have no reason to be disappointed. About 40 couples were present, and had it not been that the night turned out very wet, a good many more would have put in an appearance. Mr Philip Jones acted as M.C., and first-class music (violin) was provided by Mr Stuart, of Invercargill, assisted by some of our local musicians. The catering was done by Mr W. Shields, who had plenty and to spare of light refreshments served out during the night. One noticeable feature was the orderly manner in which the whole affair was conducted. Songs were given at intervals, and dancing was kept up with good spirit till daybreak.
