The Wool Trade.

The following letter from the Adelaide chamber was read at a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce held on Monday last : — Adelaide, August 20. The Secretary of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce. Dear Sir,— l am instructed to hand you copy of resolutions passed at a meeting of this chamber, held outhe 18th inst., bearing upon the high bids insisted upon by the brokers at the London wool sales, •which has been brought under its notice by the South Australian Stockbreeders' Association. On low-c'assed wools the advance of 3d often means a rise of 12^ per cent., which appears most excessive, especially when the usage at cotton sales is considered. Resolved — " That the recommendation of the Stockbreeders' Association— that the bids at the London wool sales shonld be gd instusid of £d as now — is cordially approved by the committee, the fact of Monte Video wools being sold by bids is sufficient proof that £d bids are neither necessary nor yet adhered to, while they are specialty hard upon Australian growers of low-priced wools." " That the warehouse charges (of about 3s 6d per bale) appear heavy, and it is desirable that inquiry should be made with a view to their possible reduction." The object of this chamber is to drawl he attention o' the Atufcralasiau chambers to the subject with a view to arrange for united action. — I have, &c, H. 0. Duffirld, Secretary. The letter was referred to a committee, to consist of members of the chamber engaged in the wool business.
