Southland Land Board.

The following business was transacted at the meeting of the 12th instant : — Applications granted:— To occupy deferred payment lands : H. M'Kay, section 67, Waiau ; John Elliot, section 9, block XVIII., Colac Bay; John Wilson, section 104, Waiau. To complete purchase: W. D. Basstian, section 5, block 111., Centre Hill ; Michael Murphy, section 4, block VI., Fern Hills; John Sutherland, section 21, block IV, Menzies' Ferry. To capitalise : John Barry, section 22, block 1., Longwood. Mrs Ryan, Seaward Bush township, asked the Board to accept rent for one term, she being three years in arrear. Resolved to accept the rent ; residence an improvements having been made in the meantime. The Oteramika Road Board submitted a list of roads in their district on which it was proI posed to expend deferred payment money.— "■ Sanctioned. It was decided to submit the lease of gravel reserve, section 39, block 1., Aparima, to auction, at an upset of 2s per acre. George Tomlinson's objections to section 2, block VII., Makarewa, being reserved as a ' cemetery, were ordered to be forwarded to the Government. It was decided toinform D. I. Bell, who offered to lease or purchase the township of Macandrew, that the sections must continue as a township. R. Cowan, lessee of block XXI., Limehills, wrote, stating that the price he had agreed to give for the land— 36s per acre— was too high. He offered 7s 6d per acre per annum, and should the Board decline that price he asked for time to remove his fencing, &o. — Resolved that the lease be cancelled at the end of the year; the land to be offered at auction at an upset of 6s per acre. E. Lorenz wrote, complaining that through there being no railway crossing he could uo get material to his section, 607, Hokonui, and therefore could not proceed with his improvements, as required by the Act— Referred to the Public Works Department, the Board having no power ia the matter. J. R. Mills intimated that for climatic reasons and the difficulty of access he would be compelled to throw up his pastoral lease of Run 421 (Longwood). — Referred to the Government, the Board recommending favourable consideration. The Crown Lands Ranger supplied a list of d.p. sections which had been forfeited, and suggested reductions in the valuations for improvements, as these were deteriorating, and no one would give the amounts originally , fixed for them.— Resolved that the Ranger's valuations be adopted in cases where he had arranged with those entitled to them; in other instances the parties to be communicated with.
