BOWLING. CALEDONIAN BOWLING CLUB.

The annual meeting of this club, held on Friday at the Shramrock Hotel, was largely attended. In the absence of the president, Mr R. Clifford was voted to the chair.

ANNUAL REPORT. 1 The annual report showed that there are 56 financial members, and that the expenditure during the year amounted to £51 13s Bd, leaving a credit balance of £4 6s 4d. During the season 36 new members were elected ; 11 club matches were played, of which 8 were won, 1 drawn, and 2 lost. The club sent two rinks to compete for the Cunningham Challenge Cup. Although not winning it, the club felt proud of the position of running second for the trophy, beating Dunedin Canterbury clubs. During the season the club had been presented with a banner bearing the colours of the club (yellow and maroon) by his Worship the Mayor of South Dunedin on behalf of the donors, Miss Ross and Mrs Yates. During the season the Bowling Club Association of New Zealand had been formed, and the committee was of opinion that it would greatly help_ to foster the game of bowls in New Zealand. During the season the commit.' cc instituted a series of rink matches, which they consider was mainly instrumental in the club taking the proud position it holds this Beason of being "at the top of the tree." The committee, wish to return their sincere tbank3 to the dr nors of prizes to the club, also to the worthy groundkeeper (Mr Beverstock) for the condition in which he had kept the green. The sum of £2 10s had been voted for shrubs around the green. The nine meetings held during the year had on an average been attended by six members.

The following is a list of the prizewinners during last season : —

Mr Speight's prize (silver tea and coffee service ; to be won twice ; W. Sutcliffe won it last year). J. Ogg, who was presented with a silver cake basket »Ibo given b£ Mrs Speight— runner-up, J. Yates ; president's prize (gold chain), J. Yates— runner-up, w. Sutcliffe; vice-president's prize, No. 1 (four cabinet portraits of the winner), J. V. Lonsdale; vice-president's prize, No. 2 (four cabinet portraits of the winner), J. Tat^s ; Mr Greenslade's prize (silver cup), J. Blaney ; Mr Ogg's prize (silver cup), J. Yatea ; Mr Hales* prize (gold medal), J. Yates ; Mr Blaney's prize (pair of silver-mounted bowls), H. Fenwick ; Mr Mathieson's prize (album), W. M. White ; rink prizes (two medals), H. Mitchell and J. Yates.

A gold brooch and earrings were presented to the groundkeeper, Mr Beverstock, for Mrs Beverstock. ' Mr W. Dawson, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, said that very few bowling clubs in the colony could show such a good balance sheet. He also referred to the valuable prizes presented, saying he thought they should act as an incentive to the success of the club during the coming season. Mr D. Jokes, who seconded the motion, spoke of the earnestness displayed by the president (Mr Speight) in anything tending towards the welfare of the club. The motion was agreed to. ELECTION OP OFFICERS.

The election of officers resulted in Mr Speight being re-elected president ; Mr W. Dawson, vicepresident; Mr J. Yates, secretary; Messrs Fenwick, Mitchell, Jones, Car malt, committee; Messrs W. Dawson and E. Hogg, auditors.

The Wellington Star Boating Club have passed the following resolution :—": — " An amateur oarsman or sculler must be a paying member of a recognised rowing club which has been in existence not less than six months, and which numbers not less than twenty paying members. He must not himself have derived any pecuniary profit, directly or indirectly, from rowing or sculling in races or from the funds of his club."
