WEEKLY STOCK AND PRODUCE REPORT. Wednesday, August 11.

Fat Cattle. — 267 head wero yirded to-day at Burnside, including 43 head extra prime heavy weight bullocks ex Go-ahead from Oroua Downs Estate (Foxton). Nearly all offered to-day were useful quality beef to prime. The number forward being considerably in excess of requirements, bidding was slack and sales effected were at a reduction of 20.3 per head

all round. Best bullocks brought from £8 15s to £11 10s; medium, £6 10s to £8 10s; others, £4 and upwards. Cows, £3 to £8 ss.— L. Fat Calves. — 11 penned, and sold at from 14s to 28s.

Fat Sheep. — The market was overstocked with 3924 sheep, of which 300 were merinos, the balance crossbreds, about half being prime quality. Competition was dull, owing to the supply being considerably beyond butchers' requirements, and fully 2s under late rates had to be accepted to effect sales. Best ciossbred wethers brought from 11s to 13s; others, 9s 6d to 10s 6d ; best ewes, 9s 6d to 12s ; a few pens extra heavy Leicester ewes 12s to 14s; others, 5s 9d to 9s; merinos, 4s 9d to Ss 9d.— L. Fat Lambs. — D. Reid and Co. sold for Mr W A. Todd, 32 fair quality at 5s 9d.

Pigs.— l 94 forward. Fully half were suckers and stores, and for these there was very little demand. Porkers and baconers sold at about late rates. — L. Maclean (on behalf of the British and New Zealand Mortgage and Agency Company, Limited) sold for Mr Jas. Streeter (Temuka), 64 up to 40s.— Donald Reid and Co. yarded 82, and sold them at quotations for Messrs J. Allan (Holmes), Young (Breadalbanej, Alexander (South Dunedin), Blackie Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold 89 as fol(Taieri), M'Leary (Otakia), W. Heenan (Maungatua), and W. Kirklands (Bast Taieri).— lows : — Six very heavy pigs at from 65s to 82s ; 13 bacon pigs at from 30s to 365 ; 5 porkers at 235 ; and 65 stores at from 6s to 12s 6d. — The Mutual Agency Co. sold on account of Mr John Chisholm (Otama), 26 pigs at up to 19s 6d ; on account Mr W. Irvine (Green Island) and R. Law (Riccarfcon), a few small pens at satisfactory prices.

Store Cattle. — Wright, Stephknson, and Co. sold at Burnside to-day, on account of Mr Jas. Store Sheep— There is little demand ami as but few lots are offering no tranoact-to're of importance are taking place. Sheepskins. — The usual weekly sales held oil Monday last were well attended, and buyers competed briskly for the different lots offered^ With the exception of butchers' green skins, which through being wet and dirty did not realise late rates, all were said at a slight advance in values. Dry crossbred skins brought from Js 3d to 4s 4d; do merinos, Is Id to 3s 5d ; pelts, Id to lOd ; green crossbreds brought 3s 6d, 3s 9d, 3s lOd, 4s Id, 4s 3d, 4s 6d, 4s Bd, 4a lOd ; do merino, 2s lOd, 3s 2d, 3s Gd, 3s 9d. Rabbitskins.— Competition for well-classed full-furred winter skins -was brisk at the sales on Monday, and prices for these show an advance on late values. Medium quality and summer skins were also in slightly better demand. Best winter skins brought from Is to Is 2d ; medium, 8d to lid ; inferior lots up to 6£d. Hides.— The demand continues steady, and all lots coming forward find buyers at late quoted prices. Quotations are : — For inferior and bulls', 2d to 2§d ; light, .3d to 3Jd ; medium, Did to 3|d ; heavy (601b and over, free from cuts and offal), 4d per lb. Tallow.— The demand is slightly weaker and values are a shade easier. Prime rendered is worth from £18 to £20 ; medium, £15 to £17 ; inferior, £12 to £14. Rough fat— prime, £10 to £12; mixed, £8 to £10; inferior, £S to £7 per ton.

Grain. — Wheat : There is nothing fresh to note iv the values of this cereal since last reporting, and in fact very little business is being transacted. Millers are operating with reserve and only purchasing limited quantities, while owners continue to hold for higher prices. Prime milling velvet aud Tuscan is worth 4s 8d to 4s 9d ; medium, 4s 4d to 4s 7d ; inferior and fowl wheat, 3s 9d to 4s 2d. Oats : There is a fair demand for both local use and shipment, but as holders are not prepared to accept prices offering, transactions during the past week have been limited. Best milling is worth 2s 4d to 2s sd ; bright feed, 2s 3d to 2s 4d ; medium, 2s Id to 2s 2d ; off colour, Is lid to 2s.

Ryegrass. — There is a better demand for this, and several lines have been placed during the week. Farmers undressed samples are worth from 3s 9d to ss ; machine dressed, 5s 3d to 5s 6d.
