Melbourne August 5
The strikers in the employ of Robinson and Co., ironfounders, having refused to submit their dispute to arbitration, 46 local ironmasters have resolved on a lock-out.
The Government resident at Derby reports, under date July 26, that all the miners at Kimberley are getting gold. Experienced miners consider the prospects favourable. Much gold is understood to be in the diggers' hands.
Sydney, August 6. Two steamers sailed to-day, taking 400 diggers bound for Kimberley.
The contract between the Governments of New South Wales and New Zealand and the Union Sfceani Ship Company for the conveyance of the San Francisco mails has been ratified by the Legislative Assembly.
Wheat is Id per bushel lower, at 4s 2d ; New Zealand oats at 2s Gd per bushel, a decline of Id. Maize, per 561b, is at 3s 4d. Sugar is unchanged.
SrDNfiY, August 10. The German warship Albatross has returned from a cruise in the Pacific. Her commander reports that he shelled the villages in several of the islands where Germans had been murdered, and killed and wounded 40 natives.
The Government have now under consideration a plan for the celebration of the centenary of the colony.
Adelaide, August. 5. In the Legislative Assembly the hostile motion tabled by Sir Henry Parkes relative to the tariff proposals of the Government came up for discussion on the third reading of the Customs Bill, and after an animated debate the motion was rejected by 42 to L\. • The Seamen's Union are opposing-Jthe demand of the shipowners for a redaction of wages.
Adelaide, August 6. Shipping wheat is at 5s Id to 5s 2d per bushel. Adelaide town ilour is at £11 to £11 10s, and country brands at £10 10s to £10 15s per ton.
Adelaide, August 7. Arrived : Caledonien, with the English mail dated June 28.
Mauritius advices are to hand per Messageries Calectonien of date July 23. Under that date Messrs Ireland, Frascr, ami Co. report: — "The sugar crop is estimated a(, 100,000 tons. The exports to New Zealand this season amount to 6000 tons."
Albany, August 9. The P. and O. Cos. Sutlej, witli London mails dated July 9, arrived at King George's Sound this morning.
