Draughts Tournament.
The return draughts match Mosgiel v. Riccarton took place in the Oddfellows' Hall, Mosgiel, on Friday evening. The last match played, "which resulted in a draw, was a district one; but since then draughts playing has received considerable impetus, resulting in the formation of a club at Mosgiel numbering 60 members, the mayor being hon. secretary. The match played on Friday evening was the initial one of the club, therefore the interest displayed on both sides was particularly keen, and during the evening between 40 and 50 paid the small charge made for admission. It was thought at one time that the Riccarton players would carry all before them, but the younger club proved too maDy for the senior one, winning an amicable and well-contested match by two games. Mr D. Burnett captained for the Mosgiel, and Mr J. Shore for the Riccarton. There were 23 players on each side. Subjoined are the scores : — MOSCrIEIi. KICCARTON. Wins. Draws.
