Sad Fatal Accident.— Two Lives Lost.
(By Telegraph.)
Naseby, August 4,
An awful accident occurred at Hamilton yesterday. Thomas Mewton and John Ogil vie were just leaving that township for Sowburn in a spring cart, when the horse bolted. Mewton was immediately thrown out on his head, with the result that his neck was broken — death being instantaneous. Ogilvie managed to hold on for some little time till the cart collided with the corner of a blacksmith's shop, when he was jerked out on his chest and face. Seve7 - al persons ran to his assistance, and on being asked how he felt he tried to raise himself from the ground and said he felt better. He then immediately fell back and expired. On examination it was found that the bones of the chest were fractured and broken and some of the large bloodvessels of the heart ruptured. The occurrence has thrown quite a gloom over the district. Both the deceased were well known. Mewton was only married five weeks since, and has recently started hotelkeeping at Sowburn.
Warden Kenrick (of the Thames) was seized with illness while on a visit to Auckland. He died at the Northern Club this afternoon.
