PORTOBELLO.
August 2. — The ordinary monthly meeting of the Portobello Road Board was held on the 31st ult. Present: — Messrs J. Macandrew, junior (chairman), R. Raynbird, J. G. Lewis, J. Seaton, G. Anderson, W. Dickson, J. Cross, and A. Rodgers. A letter was read from Mrs Nicholl's agent complaining as to^the entrance to her property in North-East being destroyed, and asking the board to redress the grievance. The engineer certified to the completion of the beach road, but the board decided to let the final payment stand over for a montli with a view to the engineer in the meantime to the engineer explaining certain matters relating thereto. An opinion from the board's solicitors in re cattle impounding was read, and it was resolved that Mr Garrick be appoi^ed ranger for the district. A letter was read from Mr W. A. Wilson, stating that he objected to the board making a road on his land without awarding compensation. Mr Muir wrote complaining of the state of the bridge at Hooper's Inlet road. In consequence of its having a wooden cover it was very slippery in wet weather. The inspector was ordered to attend to the matter. Mr D. Young wrote asking the board to make an entrance to thb new road ab his property. The inspector was authorised to have the entrance formed. An account from ..!».• North for keeping a drain in order for the last six months was passed for payment, as were also accounts amounting to £74 17s.
