Medical. THE CENTRAL PHARMACY Late HOWARD and RAYMOND. Owing to the great increase of Business at 174 Princes street south. I have been obliged, for the convenience of country customers and residents in the north end of Dunedin. to EXTEND my BUSINESS to premises more convenient. 1 beg to inform the Public genera'ly that I have purchased that old-established and centrally-situated Business so long and successfully carried on by Messrs Howard and Raymond, and will continue it, under efficient management, in conjunction with my Old Business at 174 Princes street south, under the style or title of " The Central Pharmacy." The experience of the past teaches me that to continue my Business as in the past— i.e., Direct Importing and Minimum of Profit— means almost unlimited success. Specialists! Uraw on Nature : *he compels you tm b«neur the accajitauce. ffIIHIRTY years since, when Dr Smith first JL commanced practice hare, it was thought by medical men that to be a specialist was derogatory to the professional man, but this, like most other innovations in scientific and lay matters, was found rather to aid than to be "infra dig." to that profession wherein th« upeoialty was practised. Lallemand and Ricord iv France, and Action in England, were for yeais cried down by their medical brethren. Now and for many years past *ihey have been looked up to and quoted by ?rfjry man who pretends to have any knowledge oV the particular branch of the profession which 1 hsse gentlemen specially devoted themselves to. It was the same with Erasmus Wilson, the " Skin Doctor," recently knighted by her Majesty. Years since it was the same with Dr L. L. Smith, of Melbourne, who practised (aa did Lallemand and Ricord) as a specialist. In all cases of diseases and habits which produce symptoms of Nervous Affections, of Skin Eruptions, Prostration, and make human beings invirile, or which unfit them to carry on the pur« poses of their being, or which demonstrates itself, on the other hand, in Hruiilivo Diseases aud Secondary Forms of Affections ; in all ol these cases how necessary it is to have the Specialist who has devoted his whole lifetimes to the studying and practising in this one branch of his profession. Hence now, after so many years, all minutise are familiar to him, and symptoms which (it is not unreasonable to suppose) may not strike the general practitioner at once, now, from constant practice and observation, make Dr L. L. Smith master of the ■übjeot. The medical profession — that is, the more liberal-minded of them — have likewise recognised this fact, and Specialists now in evex£ branch — oculists, aurists, syphilic, mental <w^ eases, chest diseases, and in fact every portion of the human frame, has now some membet of the profession who devotes his time to that and to none other. For instance, the "cheat doctor" would on no account attend an a,»« •couchement, and the oculist would not think of setting a broken leg ; but each would advise his patient to go to that doctor who is moat famed for treating tho di^enae requiring special ■kill. Dr L. I). Smith asks those who require threat* meni for Weakness, Prostration, Barrenness, and sterility, .whose frames and whose constitutions are shattered, to consult him as an expert. Thirty (30) years' practice in this colony, with a practice extending throughout not only the Colonies, but in India, China, Fiji, and even in England, he claims ought to be suiiicient .to cause every man or woman requiring such skdlH as is alluded to above, to consult him either per* ■onally or by letter. As » Syphilographer, no othe? medical man has been able to have such large experience aa he possesses, and for other allied affections— such as Nervous Disease — no one in the profit■job hqts enjoyed no much publio confidence^ Pit L.
