Good heavy weight are most in demand and scarce, but the markets is well supplied with other kinds, which are saleable at 2d to 2Ad for bull-; and inferior ; 3d to 3jd for light ; 3|d to 3^d for medium. It is only for exceptionally good hides frco from offal, cheeks, and shanks, weighing 601b to 651b, that 4d or a fraction over can be obtained
Tallow. — There is a brisk demand for shipment, and several small parcels have been disposed of for this purpose during the week at prices slightly in advance of late rate rates. The quantity coming forward is very small, and h« the limited stocks in agents' hands are firmly hold for an advance, this business passing is only slight. The present tone of the market is exceedingly firm, and as holders all along the coast nortlwards are firm in their demands, prices here for some time to come are more likely to further advance than to recede Quotations : Prime milling Tuscan, 4s 6d to 4s 7d ; do white velvet, 4s 5d to 4s 6d ; prime hard red straw, which has the most demand at present owing to short supplies, commands 4s 4d to 4s 6d ; medium quality, 4s to 4s 3d ; inferior and fowls' wheat is also in good request at 2s 9d to 3s lid (ex store, bags weighed in). — Oats: Milling samples are in good demand for local requirements ; feed have also been in fair request by shippers, but as prices asked seem to be beyond their limits there have been fewer transactions during the week. Stocks are not, however, by any means heavy ; and so long as holders continue firm there is no reason why present prices should not be maintained. Quotations : Bright stout milling oats, 2s 5d to 2s Cd ; medium, 2s 4d to 2s sd; best bright short feed, 2s 2d to 2-, 3d; medium, 2-! to 2s Id ; inferior and discoloured, Is 9d to Is lid ; long tartars, (it for seed, are held for 2s 9d to 2s lOd (ex stove, bags weighed in) — Barley : This market continues inactive, and the operations of the week would not total a considerable r mount. HORSE MARKET. Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report as follows :—: — Eighty-nine horses came forward for last Saturday's sale, including about a score of first-class draught mares and geldings from well-known breeders. For these there was good competition at prices ranging from £24 to £50. We again experienced great difficulty in quitting any of the light draught and small light harness horses, of which the rest of the supply was almost entirely made up. Privately, for shipment to Australia, we have sold 40 first-class draught mares and geldings at quotations. We do not, however, anticipate, for some time at all events, that the demand will be so brisk as it has been of late, owing to the principal buyers' requirements beiug now supplied. By the Waihora, sailing to-morrow, about 50 horses are being shipped to Victoria. We quote first-class draughts at from £27 to £33 ; medium, £18 to £22; light, £12 to £15; good strong carriage and ligt harness horses, £16 to £22 ; medium, £10 to £12; light and inferior, £2 to £6. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKET. J. H. Kir-Goun, Grain and Produce Broker, reports under date June 23 as follows: — Wheat. —The market continues active and supplies are stiil short of local requirements. My sales have been at 4s 6d for white velvet of milling quality; and red straw and Tuscan would fetch the same price, red straw being in most request; medium milling, 4s 3d to 4s 4d; inferior milling and fowl feed, 3s 9d to 3s lid. Oats. —Prices have gone beyond shipping limits, but supplies do not keep pace with local wants, I quote bright short feed, 2s 3d to 2s 3£d; ordinary feed, 2s 2d; milling, 2s sd, or, if exceptionally bright, 2s 6d. . * Barley.—Malting, quiet at 2s lOd to 3s: milling, 2s 6d; feed, 2s to 2s 3d.
