COMING EVENTS.

Tuesday, 29th June, 8 p.m. — The Arion Club issued invitations (as announced in the music columns of last week's Witness) for a private " practice," to be held in St. Matthew's Schoolroom, Dunedin, on Tuesday last ; but owing partly to another musical meeting being held last Monday, this "invitation practice" of the Arion Club was postponed till the coming Tuesday. For the principal contents of the programme we must refer our readers back to our last music columns.

Thursday, Ist July. — Mr Strack is to read a paper on " Music" at the ninth annual meeting of the Educational Institute of Otago. Fkiday, 2nd July, 8 p.m. — A concert to be given at the Garrison Hall, in aid of the fund for completing the towers of St. Joseph's (Roman Catholic) Cathedral. As our next issue will hardly reach many of our" readers in time, we may say that we have seen the programme of this concert, which promises to be of a brilliant and popular character. Herr Scherek is the director ; Signor and Madame Morley are to sing, the latter being announced to sing an " Aye Maria" to Gounod's setting, with accompaniment of piano, harmonium, and violin. Mr Matthews will also sing. A chorus of mixed voices will sing three-part-songs, the ladies alone singing " The Eglantine," the notes by Wuerst, an extremely pretty little piece. Herr Scherek will give a piano solo, and will also take the- piano part in a trio by Reissiger, Herr Schacht and Mr Charles Waud taking the other parts. The last two gentlemen will each give a solo on the violin and 'cello respectively.
