WAIKOIKIO.
June 22. — The footbridge over the stream near the schoolhouse has been put in a, thorough state of repairs, and the children who have to cross it will now be able to attend with greater regularity. The teacher, Mr A. F. Joseph, has been absent on sick-leave for a few weeks, ami the school has been temporarily under the charge of emergency men from Dunedin. Mr South, who has charge at present, is imparting instruction in music, and thus supplying a felt want.
Bunny. — Rabbit-poisoning has either been started or is about to be started in most of the estates in this district, those concerned having come to the conclusion that co-operation is absolutely necessary if the pest is to be successfully combatted with. It is to be hoped the Government will not be behindhand iv poisoning the various reserves in the district, so that a thorough clearance may be effected.
Charity. — There is some talk of inaugurating a performance in aid of the Benevolent Institution, but the preliminaries have not been arranged so far. These entertainments have hitherto proved very successful, and it is to be hoped the coming one will not prove an exception to the rule.
Religious. — Mr David Anderson, who has acted as missionary in this district for some time is about to be remove to the West Cosi.st. Mr Anderson during his residence here has made many friends, and hap gained the respect of the residents of the district.
The Weather is very disagreeable, hail, snow, and rain having been the leading features during the past 10 days.
