BRITISH AND FORGK^. (Reuter's Telegrams.) New York, May 4. The labouring classes in the United States have commenced an agitation for initiation of the eight-hours' movement. The labour strikes are extending over a widespread area. At Chicago a serious riot took place yesterday, resulting in the loss of several lives. It is alleged that the outbreak was instigated by foreign Socialist organisations. Disturbances of a more or less serious nature are reported from several industrial centres. (Special to Press Association.) London, May 5. Captain La Cascade has been appointed Governor of Tahiti ; and Captain A. Le Boucher, Governor of New Caledonia, has been removed' to Guadeloupe. Nelson, the New {South Wales oarsman, will probably receive the Royal Humane Society's medal for courageously saving a boy from drowning. Prince Alexander of Rouinelia will pay a visit to the Sultan of Turkey shortly. Ottawa, May 4. The question of Home Rule for Ireland is now under discussion in the Canadian Parliament..
