High School Board of Governors.
The monthly meeting of the High School Board of Governors, held on Monday, was attended by Dr Brown (presiding), Professor Shand, Revs. Dr Stuart and A. R. Fifcchett, his Worship the Mayor, and the Hon. W. H. Reynolds. The Secretary reported that Miss E. Pratt and Madame Miiller had accepted the office of visiting music teachers in the Girls' School. The resignation of Mr Allardice, of the Boys' High School, was accepted, and it was decided to advertise for a successor. Mr A. F. Baker, of St. Bees, England, wrote applying for an appointment under the board. — Received. Mr M. J. S. Mackenzie, M.H.R., appeared in support of an application to have the rents of perpetual leases in the Strath-Taieri district reduced. — It was intimated that the board had no power at present to reduce rents. The balance sheet for 1885 was laid on the table, and the chairman was requested to draft the annual report and forward it to Wellington. Accounts and salaries amounting to £832 8s 7d were passed for payment.
