HAMILTONS.
May 3. — Our little township has sustained a loss in the departure for the Old Country of Mr Hart Tregenning, who has for the past nine years proved himself a capable and useful resident, gaining the esteem of all witlj whom he came in contact. Mr Tregenning left on the 26th ult. Before leaving he was presented with a written address and a book by the children attending the Sunday school, in which he has always taken a deep interest. Prior to the presentation of the address Mr Coram, superintendent of the school, addressed the children, and referred in feeling terms to the loss they were sustaining in Mr Tregenning's departure. He then called on one of the boys to read the address, which proved a neatly-worded reference to the good work performed by the recipient during his stay amongst us. The long dry weather experienced in this district, which has been a great drawback to mining and has been severely felt by our farmers, has at last broken up. On Tuesday 27th, the rain commenced, and continued steadily until Saturday. Mining operations are consequently once more in full swing.
