■ RonrcKT Given' at Mki.ho. k.vk.— We have just received an Interesting letler from this old Otago player, lie has been moat Kindly received by the Melbourne draught players. Shortly after ari-iv 1 he made enquiries about the leading players and was introduced to a Mr Paterson, fchev had threo giunci together, which were all won by Mr (Jiven. The brother— James Paterson. the Champion of Australia, according to the Melbourne Leader, then arranged to have a few games with him. Fivegames were played Given winning the first two, Paterson the third/and the fourth and litth were drawn. We are sure that Mr Given would be the first to admit that there ar« at least n do/en players in New Zealand fully his superior at the " silent game " so his success with the champion might reasonably induce some of our players tae hue a guid % conceit o' Ihemsel's it they were'na nat'rally sac verra modest.
