The Labour Market.
Mr Skbnk reports for the week ending April 28 : Winter work has now begin, and things look a little better for ploughmen, youths, and lads, but wages are still flat. Men are opening their eyes and minds to lihe fact that farmers and squatters' cannot make bricks without straw. Wages for this week are : ploughmen. 17s (3d to. SBs 6d ; double-furrow ploughmen, up to 25s ; grooms and gardeners, 20s to 255 ; Al gardeners, 30s per week, or 8s per day ; station cooks, 20s to 25s ; station and farm couples are very quiet, boys and lads for country, 6s, Bs, li's. and 12s; milkers, men, lads, boys, and girls, 10s. 12s, 15s, 20s, and 25s ; hotel servants almost neglected ; shepherds are asked for; domestic servants are in good demand, hard to get and worse to, please.
