Sheepskins.— lor Monday's sales fair catalogues were Biibrnitted at the different rooms. There was the usual attendance of buyers, but prices current, especially for green skins, were not equal -to those ruling last week. Country skins : Crossbreds at from Is to 3s Id, and merinos at from 8d to 3s 'Id.

Hides.— The demand both for local consumption and for export is good, aud consignments coming to hand meet with ready sale at from 3d to 4|d per Ib tor soui d, clean, well-saved, salted hides, according to weight. We would again draw tha attention of butchers and othera interested to the destruction of their hides from careless flaying and dirt. To realise the effect of cuts it would be necessary to see, as we have done, the hide when turned into leather. Tanners assure us, and it appears to be true from all appearances, that the value of a very large percentage of hides in leather is lowered from 15 to 2.3 per cent, by bad flaying. Then, when hides are just thrown aside and allowed to become very dirty, their substance is in very many instances completelydestroyed. Attention on the part of se'lers to these matters will result in considerable gain to themselves.

Tallow.— The market is very weak, and prices are if anything- lower. Giaiu.— Wheat : During the past week the market has manifested a decided change for the better; both millers and exporters are now operating, and since our last report several transactions of considerable magnitude chiefly in Ivoi-thern wheats— havo taken place. Only choicest samples, however, are in request; medium qualities for milling are neglected, but there exists a good demand for fowle' feed. We quote prime Tuscan whoat at from 3s 8d to 3s Od per bushel, primo pearl velvet at from 3s 7d to os Bd. first-class red straw at irom iis (Jd to 3s Bd, well-filled fowls' wheat at from 3s to os 3d. Oats -. Stocks are accumulating fast, as, excepting for a few fines of choice bright milling, there are no orders in the market. Prime milling oats may be quoted at from 2s to 2s O^d per bushel. Other qualities are not quotable at present. Barley • No transactions.

Potatoes.— Prime Derwents command from £3 5s to £3 10s per ton, but the demand is very limited.' J

HOESE MARKET.
