The Melbourne Grain Market.

The Argus of the 6th inst. makes the following remarks on the state ot the Melbourne grain market : — " There is little doing in the breadstuffs market, buyers not caring to operate freely at present prices. A fair demand continues for flour, and sales are making steadily at full prices. Holders maintain considerable firmness, and an* still indisposed to sell large lines. We have heard of about 120 tons having been cleared off «t from £9 10s to £9 12s 6d. The receipts last week wero larger than those of the previous week, while the shipments are nearly double the quantity of' those of the week before last. Of the quintity exported 50 bags were sent to Ta«mai-ia, 10.9 bags to Adelaide, while the AnnersW look 47-57 bags for London, the balance, 15,080 bß>*«, hnviny been shipped \o New Sour.h Wale*. In wlic.it there hus not been much doing. Tho millers arc at present tho only buyers, and they do not cure to operate freely, being in fair .supply at the moment Arrivals from th-: country are smitll, and arc likely to decrease ?hou!d rain set in. Holders, however, maintain considerable firmness, and refuse to sell under 4s 4d."

The following is by cable, dated the IMb: — "Tho manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company oi Now Zealand (Limited) reports as follows :— Shipping wheat is decidedly firmer at 4s 4d to 4s 3d per bushel. For malting barley the demand has slackened, and prices are reduced to 4s to ss. New Zealand oats, feed sorts, are quiet at 2s lOd to 3s. Milling descriptions are steady though not in active demand, 3s Id to 3s 9d. New Zealand oats (under bond), 2s 2d to 2s 5d."
