(Reuter's Telegrams.) Melbourne, January 22. Alexander Lawrence, teller in the City of Melbourne Bank, was arrested by the police yesterday on a charge of embezzling £170, the property of the Bank. The accused has confessed that he had embezzled altogether over £900 by manipulating and mutilating the accounts. Lawrence was formerly in the Bank of New Zealand at Auckland. Melbourne, January 26. The manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reports as follows on the local produce market : — Shipping wheat is active a,t 4s to 4s Id per b,ushel. Malting barley is in rather more inquiry at the reduced rates of 3s 6d to 4s 3d. Oats : New Zealand feed sorts are in good demand at 2s 10d to 3s Id. For milling descriptions prices are firmly maintained at 3s 2d to 3s 3d. N;ew Zealand oats (under bond), 2s 3d to 2s 6d. Sydney, January 22. New Zealand wheat is at 3s 8d per bushel ; New Zealand oats, 2s 7d ; maize, per 561b, is at 3s 9d ; pollard, per bushel, Is 4d ; potatoes, 55s per ton. Brisbane, January 23. A collision occurred to-day between the Australasian Steam Navigation Company's s.s. Cuiha and the Queensland Steam Shipping Company's s.s. Archer. The latter vessel sustained damage to a considerable extent.
