Young Vanquisher is a bay hor&e, 17 hands high, with immense power, and without doubt the grandest actioned horse in the Colonies. He is very compactly made, and although having \ery large bone, it is of the right wiry, clean, flat kind, with cood feet, and plenty of the right kind of hair lashionably set pu his legs, having the lull character of a high-class Clydesdale hoise, while his temper is excellent, being free from all kinds of vice. Young Vanquisher was bred by Mr Peter Anderson, Stanraer, Scotland, out of his celebrated mare Sally, by Loehfergus Champion ; gnmdsirc, Blair's Champion. Sally gained First Prize at Glasgow, Ihe Johnston and Stanraer Exhibitions, as tlie Jwsh mare of the Clydesdale breed exhibited there. Young Vanquisher, by Vanquisher, by Old Sir William Wallace, by Lothian Tani, a well-lfnown and most successful breeding and prize-taking horse ; amongst other numerous prizes, he gained the First Pri/.e of £40 at the Haddington Show, and in the same year lie gained the First Prize at the Highland Soci-t.y's Show, held that year in Glasgow, as the best si alhon of the Clydesdale breed. Old Sir William Wallace gained the Fifty-guinea Prize awarded by the Kintyre and Barrick Societies respectively, for ihe best Clydesdale entire. Young Vanquisher took First Prize at Timaru for most points in Clydesdale draught' entires, l and his stock are second to none in New Zealand. | Bbn Lomond, dam Maggie Lauder, imported by j Mr George Aikenhead, is believed to be the best brood mare in the Colony. Her first foal, Gleulyon, by Glenesk, was sold for 175 guineas, and took First Awards at Oamaru, Timaru, and Christchurch, two years in succession. A sister ot Ben Lomond, by Young Banker, was purchased by Mr Menlove, Windsor Park, at Fleming and Hedmy's sale, for 185 guineas, and was reckoned the premier filly of that year. Maggie Lauder, by Lord Lyou, imported from Scotland ; grandsire, Ben Lomond, imported from Scotland, Ben Lomond's breeding, then, is beyond doubt — his Pedigree is connected with the very best J strains of the Clydesdale blood in Scotland for generations back.
