NOTES BY 1)11 STEN'HOUSE.
(a) This move cannot be hazarded at this stage, but White failed to take advantage of it. (6) An old fashioned move, now well known to be weak. P to Q4, we need scarcely point out as the proper play. (c) Was this an oversight, as it loses the King's Bishop ?
(d) Surely the extreme of caution and timidity. The check and capture of the Bishop being both safe and effectual.
(c) This is not chess, as it is a sacrifice without any possible advantageous result, and virtually finishes the game. (/) Plucky, but utterly unsound. (!/) White has not played this game in his usual style, probably endeavouring by a furious attack to wrest a victory before the collapse of his first game, the first won game only counting in the tourney. We hope Mr Stevens will challenge Mr Borton to a friendly correspondence game, and forward the result to us.
