4027. Numbered Charade.— By Dolphin, Bluff:—

My 2456 is a bitter plant used in breweries ;04610 is a flower; 183 is a title given to a gentleman; 94510 is another name for hempen-cord; 7 4 3 6 10 is an animal of great use to man. 4028. Square.—Selected by Mignonette, Herbert:— A gallant general first tell, Who in a desperate battle fell, A constellation you must find ; A southern one tis, bear in mind. My next's a coin'; and understand, 'Tis only used in a foreign land. In Rome a kind of public place; A court of justice also trace. j 'Tis few in fchia wide world, I wis. Can truly say they have not this. 4029. Numbered Charade :— I am three words, and require fourteen letters. For nay 110 37 13 you must look to the earth ; for my 9 2 11 7 14 you must look to the mint; for my 86 6 4 you must look to a river; and for my whole you must look to a country where, there ib no war and the people are content". 4030. Chabade:— My first is a busy sound; my second is an unwelcome insect; and my whole is nonsense. 4031. Fibst Letters: — The head waters of a mighty river; an Eastern capital city; a city noted for the manufacture of stockings; an American city named for one of the titles of the Duke of York, brother of Charles I; a battle-field; a river of Europe; the ci£v where printing was invented. Place the first two or three letters of the names required in their order, and rend the title- of one of Longfellow's poems.
