NOTES BY JACK.
The weather last Saturday was all that bowlers could desire. The several greens in and around Dutiedin were in capital order, and the games played were interesting and most enjoyable. On both the Dunedin 'and Caledonian Bowling' Clubs' greens return matches, Presidents v. Vice-presidents, were played, the V.P's. side being the victors iv each case. The match played on the Dunedin Club's green was a very even and exciting one, the President's side only losing the match by two points. Upon the Caledonian green the Vice-president's ■ side won by 30 points. The match played on the Roslyn green was Seniors v. Juniors, the latter proving the victors by only six points, showing a well-contested game on the part of the Seniors. The junior members made some capital play. A large number of visitors were present on all the greens, and took a lively interest in watching the several matches, but bowling has yet to make itself popular as a spectators' game. Thus, notwithstanding the fact that the Christchurch Club have already won the cup twice, they will have to star;t on a par with other clubs. This appears rather hard for the club upon the face of it, but they will no doubt submit to the inevitable with as good a grace as possible, and generously become 'parties to the arrangement. A large number of entries are being received for the various matches about to be played on the Dunedin green for prizes to be presented by the president (Mr James Edgar) and the vice-president (Mr D. Baxter). The champion bowls are also to be competed for, likewise a valuable silver cup, generously presented by Mr T. Young. Entries for a rink match are also filling up fast. Messrs R. Crawford, W. Brown, J. Wilde, and G. H. Boyd have been appointed skips to represent the Roslyn Club in the match to be played on on the 19th iust. between the Caledonian and Boslyn Clubs. The same will commence at 2.30.
The following are the names of the players for the Caledonian Club in the match Caledonian, v. Balelutha, to be played off on the Caledonian green on Saturday, December 12 : — No. 1 rink— D. Out of the 12 clubs in Otago, Canterbury, and Southland, I have only received communications from the secretaries of three. As I am anxious to make the returns of all games played, I trust the secretaries will evince sufficient interest in the matter to send .a weekly record of their doings and fixtures.
