Potato Culture.
Last summer I made a small experiment in pofci-tA culture, and as I think it desirable that farmers ehould make known tho result of their expeiiments I H3nd you an account of this oue. When tho potatoes- planted in tb.3 garden W9 r e about four Inchon above ground 1 pulled up froa^ one row, 18 yards long, all the shoots excapt onfi or two to each root, I then planted these shoots in a row of tho same length, one toot apart in the row. I put thorn iv with a stick. Tha haulm of thia row was not so luxuriant as f.lje row it was taken from, and was later iv ripening. The original row was pa nted with cut cols in the usual way. I have just d'UEj nad waited bo!;b rows. The transplanted row p-oduced 72'b, or about 12 tona per acre : aud the original row 791b, or about lo toas> pov.' acre. The potatoes in both rowci wp.ro of similar si/03 Ifc would have made tha experiment more complete if X had weighed tho original seta, and also tha produce* of oue of tho adjoining rows ; but. T hays no roacion to suypo3Q that the ciup v/ao any Tholors from having the shoots removed. Wbother thw way of growing potatoes would bu prolitablo on au extomdod aoale I am not prepared to any, but whsro saving of surd is an objoofc, the oxpenment thowH thai a Hit In seed can bu made to t»o a loner way, ■Aumour/roH,
