Thig Company is promoted for tho' purpose of working tho valuable eeams ol coal upon the property of Mr Jamoa Frazer, of Kaitangata. Tne property comprines about 1400 acres in the Kaitangata and Tuakitoto districts, and the proprietor ha 9, by an agreement dated the 9tb day ot April 18S4, made beUesn himielf and lit Herbert Deverll, granted the exclusive ri>>ht of mining for and extracting coal upon the Bald property, with the right io .use and occupy Guch space on tbe surface of the land as may be »equlrcd for buildings, deposit of waste, and such other purposes as may be requisite for the prosecution of the woik of ccal-minir.g, also the right of using the w»ter upon the property, for the 'reriod of 99 years, at a peppercorn rent.U and a royalty of 6d per ton for large coal and 2d per ton for email coal or drosa extracted and sold. The proprietor of the property also agree 3to givo poitions of his land required f<* the construction of a railway from ihe mine to the Government line. By a memorandum of agreement dated the 12th day of 'Ju'y ISB4 Mr Devurll has assigned all bis rights under the abovo recited agree* ment toj^lr Horace By tings, as trustee for the proposed Cotapany, iv consideration of having allotted to him, or his nominee, 10 000 shares in the Company, ia respect of which tho sum of 10s each shall bo regls* tered as paid up. No other consideration U to be giveu either to the Promoters' or the Proviaional Directors. The coalfield is situated about five mti&e from Stirling, andaevea and a-half miles trom the Lovell'sFlat railway-station. A competent' engineer has roported upon the cost of Milway from the mine to the Government line at Lovoll'b Flat, and estimates it, including a locomotive, at the sum of £18,723 6b Bd. The reasons which have influenced the promoters in proposing to connect the rum e by rail with the Government line at Lovell'a Flat instead o( at Stirling are : a saving of lOd per ton in haulago to Dunedia, and that it is the only practicable route to the important farming disj-ricta o! Wangaloa and the coast, and wiil consequently command the grain traffic from thes^ districts, and thus augment the earnings of the railway. The promoters have had tho coalfield tested under tha superintendence of Mr A. Ferguson, a certificated colliery manager under the mining regulations of Great Britain, whose renort, together wiih those of Mr C E. Twining, tho well-known niirtiog engineer, and Mr A. M'Kay of tho Government GeologicaV Depart* ment (acting under instructions from Dr Hector), and Professor Black's analysis are appended. From these reports it will be seen that the quality of the coai ia unquestionable, practically unlimited in quantity, and, owing co ita position, "can bewonfromseveral different places at tho same time without interfering with one another " (Mr Twining'a report) and at a minimum cost, as no expensive maohinnry will be required to work the mine, owing to the favouraUe situation qt the seama. One ot the advantages claimed for thig mine is that flooding could not occur, and should the workings take fire at any time, coal could be procured from several other points at trifling oost and little delay, so that tho output is not liable to be seriously interfered with by casualties that occur iv coalmines worked under leas favourable conditions. As very little outlay outside the cost of construct* ing the railway -will bo required to enable the Com.* pany to place Iho coal in tho Dunedin market, it te estimated that 10s per share ivill be sufficient to meet tho necessary outlay. As an indication of the probable return for the capital to be iuvested in this undertaking, it may be mentioned that an analysis of the revenue account of the Kaitangata Railway and Coal Company for the past three years gives an average annual net profit 'of 30 per cent, upon its paid up capital. The very moderate royalty to he paid, and the, natural facilities afforded for mining and conveying the coal to market, will enable the Company to sell at a price that will commund a ready sale. The reports aud analysis above mentioned may be seen at the office of the Brokers. I6jy REaUISITION.
